Being able to easily organize your money and save for financial goals has always been core to the Astra experience. Early on we offered Wallets and Goals which allowed you to save money outside of your existing external financial accounts. More recently we released Sub Accounts which let you still organize your money and save towards financial goals - but now you are keeping your money at the external accounts that you already have - not sending those funds to a new account.

As part of our continuous efforts to streamline the consumer experience, we are phasing out Goals internal to the Astra Wallet in favor of new Sub Accounts.

Creating Sub Accounts

If you would like to convert your existing Goals or Wallet balance into new Sub Accounts, you can do so in a few quick steps:

From the home screen, select the "+" at the bottom right of the screen.

If you are creating a Sub Account with a specific target amount, select "Create a Savings goal". If you are creating a Sub Account without a specific financial target, select "Create Sub Account".

Next, name your new Sub Account, and select the bank where you would like to store the account. You can store a new Sub Account on any authorized bank account currently connected to your Astra mobile app.

If you are creating a Sub Account with a specific financial goal, you will also be asked to type in that amount in this step.

Tap "Create" and you will be taken back to the home screen where you can see the new Sub Account listed under the bank you selected in the previous step.

Funding Sub Accounts

Now that you have set up your new Sub Accounts to replace your Wallet and Goals, you can easily move funds from one set of accounts to the other:

From the home screen, select the "+" at the bottom right of the screen.

Select "Quick Transfer" from the menu of options.

Set the amount of money you want to move from your existing Wallet or Goal account and then select the new Sub Account that you want to receive those funds.

Tap "Start Transfer" and your funds will be on their way from your old Wallet or Goal account to your new Sub Account in a matter of days (timing depends on the institution).

Routine Connections

Now that you have moved the money out of your old Wallet and Goals and into new Sub Accounts, we need to make sure that all of your existing routines will also like to those new Sub Accounts for future transfers.

From the Routines page (accessible via the icon on the bottom of the home screen) you will see a list of all of the Routines that you have set up on your Astra account. The list will include both Active and Paused Routines.

On the right side of the screen, you will see two icons, each representing a financial institution (normally the bank logo) or the Astra logo. If in that list of Routines you have anywhere the institution that the small arrow is pointing to is Astra, you will need to select that Routine and then change the destination account to your new Sub Account. Repeat the process until there are no more Astra logos showing in your Routines list.

With that complete, you have successfully created new Sub Accounts, you have moved any funds from your legacy accounts into new ones, and you have ensured that all new transfers will land in new Sub Accounts.

After a few weeks with the new Sub Accounts, if you can confirm that no new funds have appeared in your legacy Wallet and Goal accounts, you can remove them from your dashboard by selecting them and then selecting the "..." from the top right of the screen and selecting "Remove". (If you accidentally have a Routine which is still utilizing one of your legacy Wallet or Goal accounts, you will receive an error message. You can resolve this by following the step-by-step instructions above.)

As always, if you have any questions about this process or any others within Astra, please drop us a note to [email protected] and we will be happy to assist!
